                                                        Neural tube defect

In preschoolers,

57% Vitamin A deficiency

68%  Iron deficiency

53% Vitamin B12 deficiency

61% Vitamin D deficiency

These are alarming figures, with Vitamin D & Iron on top of list.

Nutritional deficiencies can invite a plethora of health problems such as improper growth, digestive issues, skin problems, and poor bone development.

These figures are not restricted to rural population only. Studies done in Metropolitan cities like Bangalore, Delhi, Pune, Mumbai, Chennai showed a significant deficiency in urban children also

So, keeping in mind these studies the Indian Govt along with ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) has come up with two guidelines -

Iron supplement for 100 days/year every child since 6 months age till 18 years

Vitamin D supplement for 2-3 months every 6 months from 1 year age till elderly.

So, given the above data, it is clear that all children require vitamin supplements.

The challenge is to choose one which is tasty, safe & effective. Consult your child's doctor before starting any supplement
